Art for Humanity

Art for Humanity (AFH), hosted by the Durban University of Technology’s Faculty of Art & Design, is a not-for-profit public benefit organisation engaging with multidisciplinary arts practices and a wide range of creative work, especially around the urgent need to centre social justice today. Based primarily in Durban, AFH supports, hosts, documents, creates space for, catalyses, and helps stimulate the intersection between arts, history, social transformation, and social justice.

I’m involved as the Director, and through public seminars, reading groups, residencies, exhibitions, workshops, public events, and archiving work, I create and nurture spaces for dialogue, partnership, and critical reflection. AFH builds relationships locally, nationally, and globally to develop rich, vibrant spaces for arts and social justice discourse.

Situated in Durban’s urban centre—a space traversed daily by millions—I aim to connect local realities to national, continental, diasporic, and global communities. I see the arts as a vital space for articulating imaginaries, archives, ethics, and approaches to the urgent questions of social justice, historical legacies, and the ongoing afterlives of colonialism today.
